CJ - 280 Corrections

An overview of institutional practices, policies, ethical issues, and legal issues in the correctional system. The course will cover correctional history, philosophy, sentencing and statutes in corrections, organization and management of jails and prisons, and aspects of prison life. Alternative sanctions such as probation, parole, and intermediate sanctions, offender programming within and outside of institutions, and characteristics of the offender population will be examined as well.
