Examines the field of Irish traditional music from c. 1600 to the present and explores how the various genres of this living tradition, including sean nos singing, harp music, slow airs, dance music, and balladry reflect the social, historical, and cultural factors of their time and place. A simple performance component requires students to learn tunes on the Irish whistle.
