ED - 366 Literacy and Social Studies

This course provides a comprehensive foundation in the methods and materials for teaching Social Studies within Early Childhood and Elementary settings, integrated with research-based strategies for content-area literacy. Candidates explore the NCSS thematic strands-including culture, civic ideals, and historical continuity-while mastering the literacy skills necessary to help young learners and students with disabilities decode complex informational texts. Through high-impact practices such as oral history projects and community-based civic engagement, candidates learn to reconstruct the past and advocate for the future.
