A global examination of piracy as it existed in the regions of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans from the ancient world through the Golden Age down to the 21st century. The course emphasizes the relationship between pirates and nation-state; the social and economic consequences of piracy; and the place of pirates in the popular and cultural imagination.
