Explores major themes in New World Slavery including slavery’s origins, the slave trade, the consequences of slavery for New World societies, Africa’s cultural contributions to the New World, and the causes, consequences and process of abolition. The course compares the slave societies of the United States, Brazil and the Caribbean from the fifteenth- to the nineteenth-century.
