HI - 327 American Religious History

Examines the role of American religion from the period of colonization in the early seventeenth century through the present. This course proceeds chronologically with an emphasis on three main themes of the American religious experience: the evolving relationship between the church and state, religious practice and devotions of believers, and the dynamic relationship between religious groups and the larger American culture.
