PS - 371 Applied Counseling Skills

Credits: 3

An introduction to the skills, nature, benefits, and limitations of the field of psychological counseling for students interested in any helping profession. Topics will include applying the hierarchy of micro-skills required to conduct a five-stage interview session using listening skills, competence in active listening and empathic skills, critiquing counseling sessions, cultural and ethical issues in counseling. 3-credit course, 1 credit will be dedicated to peer counseling and critiquing. Course fee.
