Economics Major Mission Statement
The mission of the Economics Major is to provide a high-value business educational experience within the Salesian tradition. The major is characterized by a strong faculty-student community; a compassionate and collegial working environment; the advancement of knowledge through high-quality teaching and academic programs, effective communication, and relevant experiential learning; and student engagement with the business world. The economics major educates students to think critically about economic issues, helps them to understand the policy issues of local, national and global communities, and enables them to achieve success in the field of economics in today’s business environment.
Economics Major Student Learning Outcomes
Students who graduate from DeSales University with a major in economics will be able to:
- apply the principles of economic theory and practices to analyze real world problems;
- understand and explain the macroeconomic and microeconomic concepts using theoretical models and tools;
- demonstrate knowledge of how financial markets and institutions function;
- demonstrate proficiency with the tools of economic research by correctly analyzing and interpreting data from a variety of private and public sources;
- analyze opposing viewpoints on global economic issues and reach considerable independent judgments to enhance critical thinking skills.
