NU - 771 Foundations of Emergency CareCredits: 3
This course provides the interdisciplinary theoretical foundations and clinical experiences for the ENP student to develop beginning competencies to provide emergency and trauma care across the lifespan. Decision making skills are applied to a variety of illnesses and injuries, with a focus on evaluation, stabilization, intervention, and treatment of specific urgent and emergent conditions. Issues of age, gender, race, and culture are emphasized. Students analyze contemporary ENP advanced practice issues and the roles and responsibilities of the ENP from economic, social, ethical, and professional perspectives in preparation for future transition to practice. Precepted clinical experiences provide opportunities for students to apply new knowledge to the evaluation, stabilization, intervention, and treatment of specific urgent and emergent conditions. Maximizing resources, referrals, and consultation are discussed within the context of the interdisciplinary care team. 30 hours lecture/75 hours clinical
