WC - 147 Dance in World Cultures: DeSales Experience

Cross-listed with DA-147. A course that examines the relationship between dance and its surrounding cultural landscape and provides an investigation into the study of dance within various non-western cultures from around the world. Emphasis is placed on dance and human movement as a form of cultural knowledge that is imbued with meaning and is a reflection of values. Students will engage in a cross-cultural analysis of how dance is used for various social, economic, political, religious, cultural and aesthetic purposes in order to increase their awareness and understanding of human cultural activity.
